International superstars in the world of fashion and music arriving from Vietnam to perform at the The Second Annual Ao Dai Festival in San Jose September 15, 2012.
San Jose, CA September 13, 2012 – Two internationally acclaimed superstars in the world of fashion, Minh Hanh and Si Hoang will be arriving in San Jose for the upcoming Ao Dai Festival to be held this Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the San Jose Center for Performing Arts.
Dang Thi Minh Hanh, the award winning fashion designer from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam is considered one of the pioneers in the new fashion revolution, blending traditional ao dai fashion designs with modern styles.
Designer Si Hoang grabbed the attention of the fashion world when he designed the first ao dai for the Mis Ao Dai Ho Chi Minh City pageant in 1989. Since then he has been in demand worldwide has is coming to San Jose via the prestigious Paris Fashion Week.
They will be joined by an additional five equally well-known designers residing in California: Duc Hung, Quang Chanh, Debbie Nghiem, Ella Vietnam and Daniella Do.
Also arriving from Vietnam will be the supermodel turned actress and pop singer, Ho Ngoc Ha. Known for her wide range of musical offerings from traditional folk, to classical and pop music, Ha’s love songs have captivated a loyal following worldwide.
Together, these stars will be presenting a unique theatrical presentation of the history and mythology of ancient Vietnam told through music and fashion. The evening program hosted by MC Vicky Nguyen of NBC Bay Area, will start at 6pm and is part of the overall Vietnamese Art and Culture festival which starts at 3pm in the outdoor plaza. This festival is truly a landmark, international event, that reinforces San Jose’s connection to the global communities.
Hosted by the Friends of Hue Foundation and the GreenRice Foundation, Inc. with the support of GGConnections, Miss Vietnam of Northern California, Miss Vietnam Northern California Intercollegiate, and the Miss Asian America Pageant, the event will raise monies for the FHF Children Shelter located in Hue, Vietnam.

The Second Annual Ao Dai Festival to attract thousands to Downtown San Jose for a celebration of Vietnamese Art and Culture, September 15, 2012.
San Jose, CA Aug. 24, 2012 – The 2012 Ao Dai Festival: A Celebration of Vietnamese Art and Culture will take place on Saturday, September 15, 2012 from 1pm to 8pm. The event is hosted by the Friends of Hue Foundation and the GreenRice Foundation, Inc. with the support of GGConnections, Miss Vietnam of Northern California, Miss Vietnam Northern California Intercollegiate, Miss Asian America Pageant, and Far East Lion Dance Association. All festival proceeds will benefit the FHF Children Shelter located in Hue, Vietnam.
The “Ao Dai”, the elegant gown worn by Vietnamese women, has become the symbol of feminine beauty, and the pride of the Vietnamese people.
The all day festival, held at the San Jose Center for Performing Arts plaza will feature music, art, food, and fashion and is free to the public. A special opening ceremony with 100 models in Ao Dai and 25 drummers and 25 zither players will take place at 3pm along with the symbolic lion dance.
In addition to the outdoor festivities, there will be an Art Symposium and Exhibit presented by DVAN, Diasporic Vietnamese Artists Network. Featured artists include Trinh Mai, Trinh Ponce, Ann Phong, Thai Bui, Cao Ba Minh, Anhvu Buchanan, Truong Tran, and Isabelle Thuy Pelaud. (tickets: $10).
A special evening concert/theatrical fashion show will be held in the theater starting at 6pm. and will feature internationally renowned designers: Minh Hanh, Si Hoang, Duc Hung, Quang Chanh, Nguyen Dan, Debbie Nghiem, and Ella Vietnam, showcasing their modern interpretations of the Ao Dai fashions. An original script developed by Dan Do tells the story of the history and mythology of the Ao Dai will feature dancers, singer Ngoc Ha and the music of Emmy Award winner Van Anh Vanessa Vo and ensemble.
An awards ceremony, hosted by MC Vicky Nguyen, news reporter for NBC Bay Area will recognize this year’s humanitarian award recipient as well as the best Ao Dai worn to the event by the attendees. The show will culminate in a special finale performance of “Vietnam, Vietnam” arranged by Tran Quang Nam and choir.

Vietnamese American Art Colloquium, Exhibition and Workshop
The Diasporic Vietnamese Artist Network (DVAN) presents a Vietnamese American Art Symposium, Exhibition and Workshop as part of the Second Áo Dài Festival.
A premiere showcase for Vietnamese American writers and artists, the colloquium is scheduled to open the festival on Saturday, September 15, 2012 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at the San Jose Center for Performing Arts. Hosted by theatre producer Duy Nguyen, the colloquium features artist’s presentation, poetry reading and a panel discussion of Vietnamese American artists and poets. They include acclaimed visual artist and poet Truong Tran, visual artists Trinh Mai and Ann Phong, as well as poet Anh Vu Buchanan. The colloquium will be followed by an art and poetry workshop facilitated by Bay Area artist Truong Tran.
The exhibition titled Trùng Dương: The Convergence of Rivers will accompany the colloquium and workshop. Curated by DVAN Staff Member and artist Trinh Mai, Trùng Dương showcases the works of five Vietnamese American artists and can be accessed throughout the festival from 1:00pm – 8:00pm.
